Jimmy Lint Describes the Downside of Divorce

lintphoto

How many times have you or your spouse said during a heated argument, “I’m going to divorce you. . .I can’t take this any more”? Or have you ever thought silently, “When I get a divorce, I’ll get rid of my major problems, and then enjoy endless bliss with a new spouse”?

Sure, divorce might sound tempting as an escape, or even glamorous as a doorway to a new life that includes “real romance.”

However, our guest contributor–Jimmy Lint, Vice President of Lint Security in Gainesville, GA–brings us a realistic look at the downside of divorce. Writing with both candor and passion, he says:

Here are some thing’s I’d like to share that an attorney will not tell you when considering a divorce.
1) “For the Lord God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the Lord of hosts. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.” (Malachi 2:16 NKJV)
2) Your kids, you lose tons of parenting. At least 1/2 or more of the time you have little if no say in what they do.
3) If you are in the least involved with the child’s life, you will be sharing life events with the other parent. Graduations, plays, ball games, proms and holidays.
4) when you become grand parents then the cycle begins again and then there will be more of them.
5) you at sometime will be replaced. Do you want your child to be tucked in at night by someone else? Do you want them getting advice and sharing first experiences with someone else?
6) what kind of person is your replacement? What will they expose your child to? Drugs, sex or pornography? Will they be a closet pedophile or molester? Will they drink and drive? What religious beliefs will the expose them to? You have no say so in this!
7) your replacements children. What kind of influence will the new sibling be? Will they introduce your children to drugs, sex, pornography? Will they be pedophiles or molesters?

He adds:

I don’t go on rants very often, God hates divorce. Says so in the Bible. Before I start I’ve sinned and divorced my children’s mother. But fathers in divorces know this… I’d sleep in a tent so that my children do not miss a thing!!! This goes to mothers and fathers, your relationship with the other parent has nothing to do with your care for the child!!! Step up do your job and out the child first!! Not your stupid silly reasons why you hold on to hating your ex!!! The child is first. If you weren’t so selfish you might still be married!!! All divorce comes back to selfishness!!!

THANKS TO JIMMY LINT

Thanks, Jimmy, for talking about the life-altering impact of divorce, usually ignored by romance novels, TV shows, and movies. We are confident that your words will help many couples re-think their viewpoint about divorce.
